Hi everyone! Introducing Toque, who, as his name suggests, is a true Canadian from the true North. He’s a Chihuahua, roughly a year old and around 7lbs right now, but could definitely do with putting on some weight.
Toque is a really sweet little guy who had a rough start in life but is ready to love unconditionally. His purpose in life is to SNUGGLE – although as he settles into his new life his interest in discovering the world is growing. He enjoys walks and has good leash manners. The sights and sounds of downtown living was a little scary for him at first but he’s getting better every day. He’s house trained, but has been known to mark in unfamiliar houses. He’s crate trained, and happy in his crate at night and when home alone for a few hours.
Toque doesn’t seem to know basic commands, so would benefit from some work in this area. We’ve also seen some evidence of resource guarding so he needs a family who will continue the good work his foster mom has started to stop this behaviour before it becomes an issue.
Other than being on the skinny side, he has no medical issues. He is showing some tartar accumulation which is typical of his breed, and means his future family need to be willing to work with him to get him comfortable with having his teeth brushed regularly (ideally daily).
Toque is fine with other dogs – likes to say hi, and lets you know when he gets overwhelmed. Because of the suspected resource guarding behaviour he should be supervised. Not cat tested. Has been fine with children he’s met out on walks but based on his background it would be sensible to introduce him carefully to any little people.
This happy little dude is waiting for his perfect furever home. He would do fine in a condo with regular walks. He will benefit from a family who are prepared to put in the work to build his confidence and show him how to be the happy, relaxed family member he is so ready to be.
