This beauty arrived last week and has settled nicely into her foster home. Surrendered in her senior years, as her previous owner couldn’t take her with them, the shelter staff fell in love with her and wanted her placed in rescue to meet her forever family, as typically seniors don’t shine in the shelter environment.
And shine is all Sheba knows how to do! This girl is pure joy, she embraces it all-loves her walks, her foster family, treats, eating, other dogs and apparently gets on well with cats.
Sheba is quite independent, but does want to know where her people are. She enjoys the sofa, her fluffy thick dog bed and is completely house trained.
She is a puller, but her dedicated foster parents have been working on her leash skills and Sheba is eager to learn. You CAN CERTAINLY teach an old dog new tricks.
Sheba is quite attentive, smart and ready for any adventure. However, she does have some mild degenerative arthritis, and hip dyplasia, but after X-rays and consultation, the specialists feel it is non surgical. Her discomfort can be managed with anti-inflammatories and supplements. Sheba can live comfortably for many more years with appropriate exercise and weight management.
If you are considering adding a calm sweet girl to your home, then consider Sheba-the smarts of a collie and sweetness of a lab, a perfect combo! As her foster parents have said more than once “she is the perfect dog!”
