We would like to introduce Bertha! Found as a stray, she spent some time at the local Humane Society, but no one claimed her. Clearly very anxious, but a favourite of the staff, as she so wanted attention and gave so much in return. However, Bertha wouldn’t eat and her shelter fan club decided the best future for Bertha was to place her with a rescue group, who could take the time, do the vetting and help with her anxiety. Once in foster care, we quickly found out that she loves women, but is very anxious in the presence of men. But, given some space and patience, Bertha WILL accept a man into her life. Bertha is a picky eater, but does love tuna and treats, although a grazer at her food bowl. We are experimenting with different food groups to see what works best for her.
Bertha will bark if someone comes to the door, but otherwise just loves to hang out with her people, snuggle in front of the TV and give lots of love. And if you want a travel buddy, Bertha is your girl. She loves car rides and is very happy to ride shotgun, curious about where you are heading.
What would be the best home for Bertha? A house with a yard, or townhouse with a separate entrance. Condo or apartment life isn’t for her as she will react to every hallway noise or knocks on the neighbours door. Exercise requirements are minimal, two decent walks a day are enough. Bertha is housetrained, sleeps through the night as long as her people are close by and is currently left alone, uncrated, while her foster mom goes to work, and is a wonderful welcome committee once you arrive home. But Bertha would also love the company of people more than not, so a retired family, or those with alternating schedules will also be a wonderful home for this deserving girl.
